Senior Accountant

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Accountant to join our local accounting firm. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working directly with clients, solving problems, and taking ownership of a diverse range of accounting and tax engagements.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a variety of small and medium-sized businesses and will be involved in accounting, tax, financial statement preparation, and advisory services.
A CPA designation is an asset but is not required. We are open to experienced accounting professionals who have developed strong technical and client-service skills through their education and practical experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and complete a variety of compilation, review, accounting, and tax engagements.
- Prepare and/or review year-end financial statements and working papers.
- Prepare and review personal and corporate tax returns.
- Perform complex accounting reconciliations and analyze financial information.
- Identify accounting issues and develop practical solutions for clients.
- Communicate directly with clients to obtain information, discuss issues, and provide accounting and tax guidance.
- Assist clients with accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, and other business-related matters.
- Review work prepared by junior accounting staff and provide feedback and guidance.
- Provide coaching, training, and support to junior and intermediate team members.
- Assist with planning and coordinating engagement deadlines.
- Identify opportunities to improve client processes and internal accounting procedures.
- Research accounting and tax matters and stay current with relevant changes.
- Assist managers and partners with more complex client matters and special projects.
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients.
- Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with professional standards and firm policies.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in accounting, business, or a related field.
- CPA designation is an asset but is not required.
- Several years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a public accounting environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with personal and corporate taxation is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to manage file budgets and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of client files.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a client-focused approach.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with accounting and tax software is an asset.
